Domino Storage Optimizer aka DSO moves attachments from applications in Lotus Domino to the storage system Centera by EMC². Identical attachments will there be stored only once, but referenced as often as needed.

When a users opens a Notes document, DSO will restore the contained atachments, seamless and at runtime, from the Centera.

New in Version 2.0:

Functional Overview

• Moving attachments to the storage system Centera by EMC². 
  • Automatic after x days (residence time is over)
  • Residence time can be configured individually for each database (= each mail user)
  • Works euqally without loss (e.g. signature) on signed and/or encrypted documents
• Automatic restore of attachments when they are opened by the user
  • After the residence time is over again, the attachments are deleted (if unchanged)
  • Edited attachments are handled like new ones
• Objects in replicas remain complete - no disadvantage for local users
• Centera stores objects without redundancy!
• No change of Notes mail template required!
• DSO can also be used for application databases with DSO's built-in configuration features

Impact

• Rapid reduction of storage needed on the  Domino mail server (>80% are attachments) by moving the attachments to the Centera
• Correspondingly smaller backup time
• Lower overall storage consumption, because Centera removes redundancy
• Lower overall storage cost

    Within this period backup data can be restored from the mail server backup. For this period of time all deletions on the Centera are retarded.

  Restores all moved attachments of a single database (e.g. when a mailbox moves to a Domino server that has no connection to the Centera)

  Deletes all attachments from one single database on the Centera (e.g. if the database owner leaves the company)
• Consistency Check
  Finds and deletes attachments on the Centera, that are referenced by no longer existing Notes documents

Licensing

• DSO is licensed "per database". For Domino cluster replicas there is no additional license required
